Billy Hitchcock
Billy launched his career as a player in 1939 with Kansas City in the American Association. He was an extremely versatile player and saw action at all four infield positions.
Billy reached the Majors in 1942 with the Detroit Tigers. He played in the American League for five different teams (Detroit 92), Washington, St. Louis, Boston, and Philadelphia), ending his playing career in 1953. His first managerial stint was at Buffalo in 1954. After spending the next six years coaching for the Detroit Tigers, he became skipper of the Baltimore Orioles in 1962. Billy joined the Braves organization in 1965 and took over for Bobby Bragen as manager after 111 games of the 1966 season. Billy and his wife now reside in Opelika, Alabama. |
