In all probability, the most highly regarded and most-beloved player in the Braves' Atlanta history, Dale Murphy was a starter at first base (1978-79), center field 91980-86) and right field (1987-90) for 13 straight years.

He holds more career Atlanta hitting records, including home runs (371) and RBIs (1,143), than anyone else. Murphy was one of baseball's most-dominant players in the 1980s, leading the NL in RBIs in 1982 (tie) and '83 and in home runs in 1984 (tie) and '85.

He was named the National League MVP in both 1982 and '83, making him the youngest (27) to win the award in consecutive years, as well as the first Atlanta Brave to receive the honor.

From late 1981 to July 9, 1986, Murphy played in 740 consecutive games, 12th all-time. A seven-time NL All-Star, the immensely popular Murphy led all major leaguers in All-Star votes received fromthe fans in 1985. In 1989, he hit two three-run home runs in the same inning against San Francisco, tying the modern major league record for home runs and RBIs in an inning.

The winner of five straight Gold Gloves and four straight Silver Sluggers was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame last summer, and his uniform No. 3 is one of only five worn by Braves to be retired by the Organization. He now lives in Utah.
