Possibly the finest pitcher of his era, Greg Maddux is the only man ever to win four consecutive Cy Young Awards (1992-95), the last three coming with the Braves and the last two by unanimous vote.
In his eight seasons with Atlanta, Maddux has averaged 18 victories and could well be on his way to the exclusive 300-win clube (he has 240 at age 34). Maddux is an eight-time NL All-Star (six with the Braves) and has won 11 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. He set an all-time Braves franchise record with a 1.56 ERA in 1994. Though he hasn't won the Cy Young in five years, Maddux has made a strong run at it several times, including last season when he won 19 games and finished the season with 39 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest scoreless stretch in the majores by a starter since 1988. He's only the third pitcher in history to post 13 straight seasons of 15 or more wins. -- Text courtesy of Gary Caruso, ChopTalk magazine
