Third Baseman - Chipper Jones (1993, '95- ) | |

Joe Simpson, Chipper Jones, and Michael Marcey - Braves 400 Club President |
The Braves made Chipper Jones the No.1 draft pick in the nation in 1990, and he has lived up to the billing and more ever since. As a rookie in 1995, he was a starter on the World Championship team. He was the National League MVP in 1999, and last year made the NL All-Star team for the fourth time in six big league seasons. Not bad for a player who's only 28 years old.
Though he's just entering what should be the prime of his career, Jones' name is already linked with many of the franchise's and game's all-time greats. Last year, he bacame the only third baseman other than Pittsburgh Hall of Famer Pie Traynor (1927-31) to string together five consecutive 100-RBI seasons.
In 1999, Jones became the first major leaguer ever to hit .300, score 100 runs, and have 40 doubles, 40 home runs, 100 RBIs, 100 walks, and 20 steals in the same season. His 43 home runs set an NL record for a switch-hitter. He already ranks fourth (behind Dale Murphy, Hank Aaron, and Bob Horner) in Atlanta home runs and RBIs. He should move into third place in both departments during the coming season, and with a six-year contract extension kicking in, there's no telling what he'll accomplish in an Atlanta uniform.
