Only 23 years old, Andruw Jones has already won three straight Gold Gloves for what many regard as unparalleled defense in center field. He believes in quantity, as well as quality, leading major league outfielders in putouts the last three seasons and putting together an extensive highlight reel of incredible catches.
Defense may be Jones' specialty, but he has come into his own as one of the league's top hitters, too. He posted career highs in average (.303), home runs (36), RBIs (103), runs (122), hits (199), and doubles (36) last year. He also became the first Atlanta Brave ever to have three straight 20/20 (home runs/steals) seasons. Jones' first selection to the NL All-Star team last year seems certain not to be his last. Among other things, he hit his 100th career home run in 2000, becoming the fifth-fastest player in history to reach that level. -- Text courtesy of Gary Caruso, ChopTalk magazine
