No other closer has been as effective over such an extended period of time as Gene Garber was during his 10 seasons as an Atlanta Brave. From 1978-87, he recorded a franchise-record 141 saves. Garber was at his best when the Braves won a division title in 1982. He won eight straight games and saved 30 (tied for second in the league) to go with a 2.34 ERA.

A right-hander with a sidearm delivery, Garber turned his back on the hitter before spinning forward to release the ball. He's best remembered for striking out Pete Rose on Aug. 1, 1978, to end Rose's NL-record hitting streak at 44 games.
