First Baseman - Chris Chambliss (1980-86) |

The Braves' starting first baseman from 1980-84, Chris Chambliss is given credit for bringing veteran leadership to the team that helped lead to the 1982 division title. His acquisition also enabled the Braves to move Dale Murphy to the outfield, where he flourished in 1980.
Chambliss was both a steady, clutch hitter and also one of the game's best defensive first basemen. He produced career-highs of 20 home runs and 86 RBIs in 1982. His .997 fielding percentage in 1981 shares the franchise record. Reduced to a pinch-hitter in 1986, his last season with the Braves, he led the NL with 20 pinch-hits, still an Atlanta record. The Yankee's batting coach the last five years, Chambliss will manage the Florida Marlins' Triple-A team at Calgary next season. -- Text courtesy of Gary Caruso, ChopTalk magazine
