How the Braves 400 Club got its Name

When the Club was formed in 1965, a year before the Braves moved to Atlanta, the founders set an initial goal of 400 members, and the name stuck as the Braves 400 Club.

After the initial 400 membership goal was surpassed, the Club's board of directors kept the name "400 Club" as being emblematic of a .400 batting average, one of the rarest and most lofty achievements in baseball.
